Who are we?

Our Story

We are proudly a Western Australian adventure tour operator based in the spectacular Karijini National Park.

We are NOLRS and Department of Parks and Wildlife certified to run Canyoning, Abseiling, Climbing and Hiking tours within Karijini National Park.

Our prime focus is about discovery, we use the magnificence of Karijini and the power of personal challenges to help you discover something about yourself and the majesty that is our natural world.

Our guides are fully qualified to help you discover Karijini with nationally recognised qualifications in roping, hiking, water activities and Wilderness First Aid.

Our owners have a long history of living, working and adventuring in the outdoors. They strongly believe in the power for change that the majestic natural world holds.

West Oz Active Adventure Tours proudly operates to the relevant Western Australian Adventure Standards.

Introducing

Our Team

The owners are Geoff and Hwee Carter.

Between them, they have travelled to all of the continents in the world except Antarctica seeking hills to climb and hikes to experience.

They were lucky enough to have corporate careers that gave them the opportunity to travel. Upon reaching "that age" they looked for ways of travelling more and working less whilst maintaining a fitness level that helped travel. So they purchased West Oz Active Adventure Tours. They are fitter but are not sure on the working less bit!

Hwee Carter

Director

You will most likely be dealing with Hwee when you call, email or text us. On occasions, she is allowed out of the office to assist in guiding larger groups. Hwee worked as a health and medical physicist for over 17 years and was introduced to the great outdoors when she met Geoff. Together with Geoff, they have been on many travelling, hiking and climbing adventures.

Geoff Carter

Head Guide

Geoff has climbed all over the world and is the head guide. Geoff has worked as a scientist in both academia and corporate positions. He has a passion for science, the outdoors and of course anything that involves ropes. Geoff has over 25 years of running and/or participating in outdoor adventure programs across 5 continents.

Josh Huitson

Senior Guide

Josh's love for the outdoors and adventure started in Karijini many years ago and he has returned to share this with you. Josh has guided throughout Australia in a broad range of positions and has even tried his hand at classroom teaching.

Sim Colback

Guide

Coming from a background of emergency services and military roping, Sim has a keen eye for safety and is well practiced in helping people overcome their fears.

When he isn't in Karijini, he can regularly be found SCUBA diving or jumping out of perfectly good planes.

Pat Edwards

Guide

Growing up in Victoria with the Grampians at his front door step, Pat has always had a love for the outdoors and adventure.

After starting his guiding career in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Pat has joined the West Oz Active family to further his guiding career.
